Happy Birthday Janell!

Happy Birthday

It’s Janell’s 28th Birthday!!

As many of you know, Janell is my girlfriend, best friend, confidant and major supporter.  It’s very fitting that this week I’m talking about inspirational figures in my life.  Janell is major inspiration to me in so many ways.  I can’t even begin to describe the support, love and faith she has given me over the past couple years, especially this last year as I completely changed courses in my life and started my boot camp programs and website.

Janell is one of the strongest people I’ve ever met.  She’s been through a lot in just a few short years; I’ve dished out quite a bit of stress for her myself :-b.  But, through all of it, she always takes the high road and knows that in the end everything will work itself out.  I think it’s that positivity and outlook on life that makes it so for her; kind of like the Law of Attraction we talked about in yesterday’s post.

For those of you who don’t know, Janell and I used to work together at Life Time Fitness.  That’s how we met.  She was one of my top trainers and eventually became my Lead Assistant Department Head – basically, she was my right hand.  She kept things running at the top notch, record setting level that the we became accustomed to when I was traveling and performing my other roles for the company.  We made one hell of a team along with my other assistants and program leads (thanks Nick, Liz, Phil, Derk and all the other previous assistants that were eventually promoted).  Who knew that our friendship, trust and faith in each other would eventually blossom into the amazing relationship we have today?  We certainly didn’t.  In fact, we still joke about how there was zero attraction between us for the first couple years we knew each other.  LOL.

Anyway, please join me in wishing her a very happy birthday by posting a comment below.  And, it also happens to be one of my Look Great at the Lake Boot Camp member’s birthday as well.  Happy birthday Cassie!

In honor of Janell’s birthday, I thought it would be fun to run a special today.

Since Janell is 28 years old today, I’m giving a 28% discount on our regular boot camp prices when you enlist for an 8-month program.

That’s a KILLER DISCOUNT on my Look Great at the Lake Boot Camp and Online Video Boot Camp programs!

If you’d like to take advantage of one of these awesome deals just shoot me an email at justin@justinyule.com and I’ll make it happen for you.

Once again, happy birthday to my inspiration and the true love of my life – Janell.

You Get Back What You Send Out

“You get back what you send out. :-)

- Steve Wein

I love that saying.  My colleague and friend Steve Wein from Send Out Cards says that all the time; in fact, it’s the tag line for his business.  It really couldn’t be more true.

In keeping with my “Who inspires me?” theme for the week, I want to talk briefly about Law of Attraction, my friend Steve, and an amazing program that helps you let others know how special they are to you.  And, YES, I will tie this into achieving your weight loss, health & fitness goals.

Coffee Boot Camp

Grab a cup of coffee and sit with me for a few minutes.  If you don’t have one, save your money.  $2 for a cup of Joe is insane anyway.

Everyday I’m inspired by my members.  It’s truly a blessing getting to do what I do for a living.  Today, I want to share with you an especially cool “story” I’m going to call Coffee Boot Camp.

You see, I have a relatively new member who’s just rocking it.  She’s a very standard client that most people can relate to in the sense that she’s a mom and wife who has put on some extra weight over the years since having kids.  Oh, in addition, she’s been laid off.  Yeah, she’s got some stress in her life.

Cleanse Your Body to Lose Weight?

OK.  Bear with me, as I may be going off the reservation for some of you.

Let me start from the beginning…

Janell and I decided to have a little contest this first quarter to see who could lose the most weight (quality weight that is – not water weight, and certainly not muscle!) before our vacation at the end of March.  Now, the reality is we’re both in pretty good shape.  We’re certainly not fitness models or Greek statues, but we take pretty good care of ourselves.  Point being, this contest is going to be interesting.

One of the other things I really wanted to do was step up the care of the inside of my body.  I eat really well, but have been wanting to try a dietary cleanse and begin taking some health supplements like additional probiotics, greens and others.

I did some homework, and here’s what I came up with and what the results have been so far.

Top 5 Fitness Industry Predicitons for 2010

First and foremost, HAPPY NEW YEAR! 2010 is going to be an incredible year and the fitness industry is going to continue to explode.  Today I want to share my Top 5 Fitness Industry Predictions for 2010, but let’s start with an interesting study:

A recent study was done assessing whether clients got better results with or without professional supervision.

Reference: Supervised exercise versus non-supervised exercise for reducing weight in obese adults. J Sports Med Phys Fitness. 2009 Mar;49(1):85-90.

This research study looked at the effects of training with supervision/instruction (i.e. a qualified personal trainer) versus “advice” (i.e. “Can you just give me a program to follow?”).  There were two groups:

  1. Group one met a trainer twice a week for 4 months (as a group).
  2. Group two received basic advice to increase physical activity and access to a fully equipped gym (any exercise they did was unsupervised).

Results:  The group with supervision lost almost 10 pounds more over a 4-month period with a total fat loss of 13.4lbs in the coached group, and only 3.7lbs in the advice only group.

The bottom line here is pretty clear… if you are SERIOUS about getting rapid and lasting results then you NEED to hire a true fitness professional.

Of course, that comes with a BIG BUT doesn’t it?  For many, hiring a personal trainer is just too expensive.  And with that, let me share my Top 5 Fitness Industry Predictions for 2010

Top 5 Safe Shoveling Secrets

We’re officially in the midst of another winter season here.  I must admit, if there’s one thing that bothers me the most about the winter (besides the sickly cold and lack of natural light), it’s the number of people who hurt themselves shoveling snow; I even heard of someone dyeing from a heart attack!  We all know people who have tweaked their backs in their zealous attempts to keep a clear driveway; maybe you’re one of them.

Today I am going to reveal my Top 5 Safe Shoveling Secrets.  For those of you who do not live in a cold and snowy part of the country, well, enjoy the warm weather.  ? Seriously though, you can use these same tips if you do yard work or gardening.

So, without further adieu, here are my top five safe shoveling tips:

4 Quick Weight Loss & Fitness Tips for the Holidays

We all know how busy the holiday season can be.  However, do not let yourself get caught in the trap of not working out to make more time for holiday errands and events. It is a big mistake to risk losing the lean muscle mass and strength that you have worked so hard to build and maintain.

Why?

Losses in lean muscle mass will lower your resting metabolic rate (RMR), which accounts for the vast majority (about 60 – 75%) of your total daily calorie burning.

This means that everyday you will be burning less and less calories which will put you at a much greater risk of putting on ugly, unwanted body fat during the holidays.  Plus, losing strength will mean that the next time you start to work out your performance will be sub par and you’ll get smacked in the face with that ugly word that no one ever wants to encounter when it comes to training: regression!

There are many clever ways to maintain or even increase the number of calories you burn per day, both from exercise and from your normal daily activities, to stay fat-free this holiday season.  Use the strategies below to maintain and/or increase your current amount of lean muscle mass and maximize your daily calorie burn to best protect yourself against the deadly holiday bloat!
