FREE Workout Video of the Week – 2/19/10

I’m going to make today’s post quick and let the videos do the talking.

Lately, I’ve had a lot of people ask me what they can do for cardio workouts at home when they don’t have any equipment – treadmill, bike, elliptical, stair climber, etc. By the way, as I’m writing this, it’s February in Minnesota – not exactly ideal conditions for running or biking outside.

The fact is, you don’t need ANY equipment to get a great cardio workout.  Body weight workouts rock!!  You can do them anywhere and you have no excuses. :-b

With your body weight, some creativity and some killer Workout Muse tracks you can rev your metabolism to new heights and burn fat faster than ever.

Here’s one of my favorites. I call it the Body Weight Cardio/Core Blitz.

Fat Burning Boot Camp Workout Video of The Week – #11

It’s Fat Burning Boot Camp Workout Video of The Week time!

Today’s video is going to be part of a 4 week series.  Let me explain.

This month I will be launching my new Online Video Boot Camp – an online version of my kick @$$ rapid fat loss and fitness boot camp program.  My Chaska,MN area Look Great at the Lake Boot Camp just completed it’s first month, and members are absolutely loving it!  We’ve had some killer results already!!

I’ll be adding a testimonial page later this week, but in the meantime you can see some of the testimonials at www.LookGreatAtTheLakeBootCamp.com.

As great as Look Great at the Lake Boot Camp is, it’s not available for everyone. :-(

For some, it’s a price thing, but for most it’s a location thing – after all, it’s only here in Chaska, MN.  I do have some people making a heck of a commute to be here though.  I have boot campers coming from Plymouth, Eagan and Cologne to name a few.  However, if you’re beyond the 30-minute radius, say 3 hours or 3 days, you’re hosed if you want to be a part of this growing program.

Well, NOT ANYMORE!!

Soon you’ll be able to participate in boot camp right from the comfort of your own home!

Online Video Boot Camp will be the most effective and efficient home workout program available.  And, this is no sample workout or quick video demonstration program.  It’s a full on workout video.  You just press play and go!

To demonstrate, I’m going to take one of the workouts and break it down into 4 segments over the next 4 weeks.  Check it out:

Circuit 1 (on video this week)
a.    Deadlifts
b.    Straight-legged Deadlifts

Circuit 2
a.    Standing Chest Press
b.    Standing Row

Circuit 3
a.    Split Squat – Right
b.    Split Squat  – Left

Circuit 4
a.    Overhead Posterior Reach
b.    Stationary Running

Fat Burning Boot Camp Workout Video of The Week – #6

I’ve been really digging the bodyweight workouts the past few weeks, and so has my class.  I’ve been typically doing 2 resistance band dominant workouts and one bodyweight workout.  It’s a nice mix and also teaches my campers how to easily get a butt-kicking fat burning workout anywhere, anytime.

This week’s Fat Burning Boot Camp Workout Video of The Week comes right from my boot camp class, Look Great at the Lake Boot Camp in Chaska, MN.  I’ve got a great group of folks (35 as of today) of all different fitness levels who are super-dedicated to creating the healthy, fit, tight & toned body that looks great naked they deserve.

I took them through the following Tabatas style high-intensity interval training (HIIT) workout using just their bodyweight:

  1. Push-ups
  2. Prisoner Squats
  3. Alternating Toe Touch Crunches
  4. Floor Hypers
  5. Burpees
  6. Speed Jacks
  7. Stickups (this looks like a shoulder press with no weight, but you’re actually squeezing your shoulder back  the whole time and lifting your arms by rotating your shoulder blades up – awesome for posture and rehab, but go slow on the Range of Motion if you have bad shoulders).
  8. Sprint in Place

Perform each exercise for 20 seconds followed by a 10 second rest and transition.  Perform 8 total all-out bouts for a total of 4 minutes.  Rest for 1 minute and begin the next circuit.

You can see them all in action in the video below.  I certainly have no favorites in my class, but I highlight a special one for this video :-)

Ask J: What are Tabatas?

What are Tabatas?

This is a question that has come up lately, as I use Tabata Intervals in my Look Great at the Lake Boot Camp quite often.

In my opinion, and many other top boot camp instructors and personal trainers, Tabata Intervals are one of the most efficient and effective training protocols to burn fat, tone up and lose weight; not to mention, the  stamina and endurance benefits.

2009 Mid-year Review: The Top 3 Fitness Trends for Weight Loss

Well, we’re just over half-way through 2009; can you believe it?!  Today, I’m going to give you my mid-year review on the fitness industry and share 3 biggest weight loss & fitness trends that we’re seeing.

Sadly, it appears as though the fitness industry as a whole has again failed to produce any significant results on a broad scale to effectively reverse the scary obesity epidemic that is plaguing our society. More specifically, the sickening fact that American adults keep getting fatter, more lethargic, and less healthy has mirrored the unabated deterioration in the health and fitness of our youth population.

Obesity Map

However, on a positive note, we have seen some growing fitness trends that will provide the long-term answers to solve this ever-growing problem:

How to Train for Rapid Fat Loss & Fitness

Traditionally, the cornerstone of most strength training programs has been performing exercises in a straight set format – perform a specified number or reps for a given exercise, rest for 30 seconds to a few minutes, and then repeat before moving on to the next exercise.  Fat loss and endurance programs typically prescribe shorter rest periods, while strength and power programs prescribe longer rest periods.

So, what’s the problem with this format?
