Pizza Boot Camp

OK, so what’s with the title of this blog post?

Well, I’m combining two posts in one.  Since it’s Friday, I’ve got to post the Look Great at the Lake Boot Camp FREE Workout Video of the Week.  But, I’ve also got an awesome healthy pizza recipe for you. :-)

Growing up on Long Island, Friday night was always pizza night.  Mmm, it was glorious.  Nothing beats NY pizza, and Marios in Syosset was (and still is) famous for having amazing pizza.  Of course, if you’re trying to lose weight, most pizza, especially the chain resteraunt crap, doesn’t have much of a place in your meal plan.  Until now…

Our Look Great at the Lake Boot Camp Friday format is a 50:10 5-exercise circuit training workout powered by Workout Muse: Boot Camp Dynamite.  This high-intensity interval training (HIIT) format is awesome for muscular endurance, as well as cardiovascular endurance since we’re basically performing resistance training exercises for 20+ minutes almost non-stop.  It burns a ton of calories and really gets your metabolism reved up for the weekend – maybe you even enough to have an extra slice of pizza :-)

Exercise 1:  Braced Core Squats

Exercise 2:  Overhead Triceps Extensions

Exercise 3:  Alternating Cross-under Lunges

TGIF Workout Video of the Week – 3/12/10

It’s a gloomy, rainy, MN Friday :-(

BUT…

Look Great at the Lake Boot Camp ALWAYS LIFTS MY SPIRITS!!!

Every week my boot camper friends bring the thunder – no pun intended today.  I swear they motivate me as much, if not more than, I think I motivate them.  It’s truly my pleasure to coach them.

See them kicking butt once again with our Workout Video of the Week.  It’s another Freaky Friday 50:10 5-exercise circuit training workout powered by Workout Muse: Boot Camp Dynamite.

Exercise 1:  Deadlifts

Exercise 2:  Front Raises

Exercise 3:  Alternating Forward Lunges

Exercise 4:  Reverse Flys

Exercise 5:  Prone Knee-in

Finisher:  Swings

We always do a total body resistance training circuit, but today we put a little extra love towards the shoulders with the raises and the flys, and then having to hold the body up for the prone knee-in.

Summer is just around the corner and we want to make sure our shoulders and arms are looking sexy! ;-)

Vitamin D: The Sunshine Vitamin

For today’s post, I thought I’d share some exceprts from Dr. Ben’s (Eniva’s Vice Chairman & Chief Medical Officer) March newsletter.  It’s perfect timing actually, since today is kind of a gloomy gray MN day…imagine that. ;-b

But, Spring is just around the corner!!  So, let’s talk about Vitamin D: “The Sunshine Vitamin.”

Vitamin D is often referred to as “The Sunshine Vitamin” because your body produces it in response to being exposed to sunlight.  You also know Vitamin D is important for helping promote healthy bones and teeth in the body through facilitating calcium absorption.  What you may not know is Vitamin D is critical to regulating over 2000 genes in the body involved in multiple areas of health.  Vitamin D plays a critical role in supporting a healthy heart, healthy cellular replication, a healthy immune system, a healthy mood and mental health [giving it another nickname, "The Feel Good Vitamin"], comfort within muscles, and even promoting healthy blood sugar levels – to name just a few!

Happy Birthday Janell!

Happy Birthday

It’s Janell’s 28th Birthday!!

As many of you know, Janell is my girlfriend, best friend, confidant and major supporter.  It’s very fitting that this week I’m talking about inspirational figures in my life.  Janell is major inspiration to me in so many ways.  I can’t even begin to describe the support, love and faith she has given me over the past couple years, especially this last year as I completely changed courses in my life and started my boot camp programs and website.

Janell is one of the strongest people I’ve ever met.  She’s been through a lot in just a few short years; I’ve dished out quite a bit of stress for her myself :-b.  But, through all of it, she always takes the high road and knows that in the end everything will work itself out.  I think it’s that positivity and outlook on life that makes it so for her; kind of like the Law of Attraction we talked about in yesterday’s post.

For those of you who don’t know, Janell and I used to work together at Life Time Fitness.  That’s how we met.  She was one of my top trainers and eventually became my Lead Assistant Department Head – basically, she was my right hand.  She kept things running at the top notch, record setting level that the we became accustomed to when I was traveling and performing my other roles for the company.  We made one hell of a team along with my other assistants and program leads (thanks Nick, Liz, Phil, Derk and all the other previous assistants that were eventually promoted).  Who knew that our friendship, trust and faith in each other would eventually blossom into the amazing relationship we have today?  We certainly didn’t.  In fact, we still joke about how there was zero attraction between us for the first couple years we knew each other.  LOL.

Anyway, please join me in wishing her a very happy birthday by posting a comment below.  And, it also happens to be one of my Look Great at the Lake Boot Camp member’s birthday as well.  Happy birthday Cassie!

FREE Workout Video of the Week – 2/5/10

It’s Super Bowl Weekend.  That means we’ve got to really hammer out a good workout today to fire up that metabolism to help fight off the fat.  As we do every Friday at Look Great at the Lake Boot Camp we blasted out an awesome High-intensity interval training (HIIT) 50:10 5-exercise circuit powered by Workout Muse today, followed by a killer finisher.  The energy was high and everyone rocked!

FREE Workout Video of the Week – 1/29/10

It’s been a crazy busy week, but there’s always time for a 20-minute high-intensity interval training (HIIT) workout :-)

This weekend is the Women’s Expo at the Minneapolis Convention Center. I’ll be speaking all three days and will have a booth with great some great prizes and specials. Kym Johnson from Dancing with the Stars will be there, too!

I hope to see lots of readers there, but before you come make sure you crank out this 50:10 5-exercise circuit first. The 6am crowd was a little small today (gonna have to crack the whip; I mean, it was only -8 degrees ;-)

FREE Workout Video of the Week – 1/22/10

Big weekend coming up. The Vikes are going to the Superdome for the NFC championship! But, before you close out the week, be sure to hit it hard with today’s FREE Workout Video of the Week.

Let’s go into the weekend strong with your Workout Video of the Week!

50-10 Five-Exercise Circuit powered by Workout Muse: Boot Camp Dynamite

You will alternate between 50 seconds of work and 10 seconds of rest/transition for each exercise within the circuit. Perform this 5-minute circuit up to 4x for a 20-minute total body workout.

Your ultimate goal is to be able to perform at least 20-25 reps per set for each exercise or perform an isometric hold for the full duration for each exercise within the circuit. Once you accomplish this, seek to increase loading or progress to a more advanced exercise variation.

Exercise 1: Bent-knee Hip Extensions
Exercise 2: T Push-ups
Exercise 3: Alternating Reverse Lunges
Exercise 4: Bent-over Rows
Exercise 5: Dynamic Front Pillar
