When you think of metabolism, what comes to mind?

Most of the people I ask this question say something along the lines of, “it controls how much I can eat and whether or not I gain or lose weight.”

Well, that’s a very broad definition and only partly right. There are actually two types of metabolism we want to understand:

Resting Metabolic Rate:  dictates how much you should eat based on your unique physiology.
   
Exercise Metabolic Rate:  gives you your unique fat burning profile which then defines the individualized exercise program you should follow to achieve your cardio and weight loss goals.

We’ll get into it and more in The Science of Getting Fit, but let me continue with my example of what this eBook can do for you.

Did you know you can actually measure your metabolism so you know exactly what to do to achieve your goals?

You can literally find out exactly what to do.  No more guesswork.  That’s one of the most important things you can do to be successful.

There are numerous formulas out there to calculate resting metabolism (to determine daily caloric needs), and you’ll find them in plenty of other books.

But, there’s a major problem.

For example, the best equation used for predicting RMR is off 70% of the time, and the results can vary by as much as 20%!

What does this mean for the person looking to lose weight?

Example:
If their predicted* (calculated) daily intake is 2000 calories per day, 20% error equates to an additional 400 calories per day. In just one week, the addition of 400 calories per day adds up to a total of 2,800 calories!

*The Harris-Benedict equation, noted as the industry standard, has a margin for error of +/- 15-20% in prediction (calculate) of daily intake

Note: one pound of fat is equal to approximately 3,500 calories.

The Bottom-Line:  If RMR is off as little as 20%, one could anticipate weight gain of approximately 1 pound per week, 3.5 pounds per month, or 42 pounds per year!

But, there is hope.  I will show you where you can go to get an accurate measure, not prediction, so you’ll know exactly how many calories to consume and exactly how much the body burns at rest.
